Finding the canons

Likes

  • strong, complex, deep friendships
  • warm portrayals of kindness or supportive community
  • cozy small details of magic
  • magic used for mundane/prosaic purposes
  • redemption arcs
  • BAMF moments
  • Defying fate, resisting compulsions, subverting the Expected Outcome that Everyone Expects of You
  • Cross-cultural communication including cross-cultural misunderstandings
  • Unusual AUs (like uncommon job AUs), magic AUs, in spaaace AUs, regency AUs...  Canon divergence AUs are also fun. (I'm not super into stock mundane AUs like coffeeshop/college/high school, UNLESS they maintain fantastical elements from the canon or have a fantastical element, like it's a coffee shop but there's a dragon heating the tea, it's a college AU but the college is in alternate-history Australia with oversized psychic wombats...).
  • animals! animals as pets! animals as part of setting a scene! I have a particular soft spot for dragons but also spiders, snakes, cats, dogs, birds, lizards, chinchillas, bees, praying mantises, bats...
  • dramatic irony in a variety of shapes and forms (includes, non-comprehensive: identity shenanigans, underestimated underdog is actually badass, characters having a conversation without being aware who they're talking to about things they would definitely not knowingly discuss with each other, etc)
  • I don't enjoy horror played straight, but I love comedic horror (I mean things like Junji Ito's Cat Diary or My Roommate is an Apparition or anything else that plays with a horror atmosphere but deliberately fails to actually be horror)

Art likes

Things I like stylistically, very non-exhaustive list: I love color work that hasn't been perfectly rendered into smoothness. I also love flat colors or minimal colors. I love watercolor or watercolor-mimicking effects. I love visible strokes and textures. I love impressionism. I love what I guess I'll call collage-style art, where additional images have been included or where added brush strokes not part of rendering the form are added just for effect. I love very simple line work aimed at capturing a gesture. I love the use of cool shadows and warm lighting really punched into the blue and red sides respectively, in the same painting. I love contrast between art style and content for humorous effect. I love interesting/dramatic lighting, I love landscapes with a sweeping sense of scale, and I love traditional art in other media like knitting or papercraft or cross-stitch or felting or beading...

Types of art things I like: in addition to any of my prompts below, I like tarot cards, illuminated manuscripts, in-universe art, characters interacting with art of themselves (eg character reacting to an official portrait), parodies of (or just tributes to) famous works of art, little absurdist comic strips like Guide to Troubled Birds.

Other Medium Likes:

Video: I'm not really great at articulating what I like about videos. For the music feel free to just use whatever song YOU like best, since I like being introduced to new music in any case. That said  my general taste leans towards up-tempo and/or (perhaps excessively pleased with how much so) clever lyrics. For the video itself, I think I prefer sparing use of effects, but that's not a hard preference. I don't like dialogue lines being spliced in -nmaybe for a single dramatic moment but not throughout the video, and I'd just as happily enjoy it as a caption of what's being spoken without the audio of the words. I have enjoyed slideshow style still-image videos in the past, and given only one of my canons has video material to use, I'll just repeat that I'm fine with that for videos.

Cocktail Recipe - I just think it's super cool when people do these! feel free to do a cocktail based on any inspiration you take from the prompts or just "general character study" if that's simpler. Note: I cannot promise to be able to acquire the ingredients to test-drink it myself in a timely fashion.

TTRPG supplement, TTRPG Instructions - you can feel free take any plot idea below and express it as a TTRPG plot, including for playing some kind of slice of life interaction. Nami rolling for haggling, a Ramoth supplement centered entirely around luring people in to give her eyelid scratches, whatever. I find this kind of thing delightful.

DNWs

If anything here is unclear or you have an idea that skirts a DNW, please know that I am totally fine with queries via a mod.
  • nudity/nsfw
  • sex more explicit than fade to black
  • non-canon unrequested romantic/sexual pairings
  • gore (cartoonish blood is ok, not anything more detailed than that)
  • body horror
  • abuse
  • issue fic
  • trans headcanons
  • neurodivergence headcanons
  • pregnancy
  • tragedy (bittersweet/hopeful is fine)

Dragonriders of Pern

Relationships: Lessa & Ramoth, Solo: Ramoth

Medium Opt-ins:
Poetry - Bredlik
Writing - TTRPG Supplement
Video - Any Nominated Video Medium
Art - Coloring Page, Comics, Fanart, Tarot Card,  Point - Pixel Art
Instructions - TTRPG rules
Unique Rules - A Softer World style panels, Card Game Reskin

I love all the really visceral worldbuilding details of the series (and want a weyr hot spring bath for myself). I love small, vicious Lessa - I like Lessa best when she is defiant and scheming and making sure to extract petty (and not petty) revenge (and occasionally sabotaged by having a conscience, oh no!). I love Ramoth as having a dragon-like innocent selfishness, and being very highly biased in Lessa's favor.

For canon verse, I am most interested in missing scenes from the rather sparsely written interval between Lessa Impressing Ramoth and the end of Dragonflight. Or give me post Dragonflight scenes of Lessa & Ramoth flying against thread, since we don't really get to see her doing that.

I am happy to receive all kinds of AUs as long as there are dragons in them: Lessa as a lowly clerk in Fax's company quietly scheming to plant evidence of fraud so he gets hauled off to jail, or stick her in space (with dragons) and have her scurrying around a spaceship making people she hates get perpetual cold showers, or put her in a regency AU (with dragons) playing a brainless debutante while arranging for someone's character assassination. (Also, feel free to just stick the dragons into the AU without any explanation. Go ahead and worldbuild around it if that's your jam, but also feel free to have dragons there "just because". Stone age Lessa in a cave with dragons because why not. Food blogger Lessa, isekai Lessa, solar panel installer Lessa.)

I'm also interested in solo Ramoth (can also be Ramoth/Mnementh if you wish) content that looks at things from a dragon perspective and their slightly alien perspective/sense of priorities. Or just give me dragons flying, dragons getting their scales scratched, dragons lazing in the sun, dragons breathing fire, dragons playing mischief, dragons hunting, dragons going for a swim-- I am, again, a huge sucker for dragon content. Dragon slice of life! Dragon social politics! The humans do something stupid and now the dragons must save the day so that they can go back to napping. All of this would also work great for me for the TTRPG medium opt in.

(In AUs- Although Ramoth needs to stay a dragon feel free to make her other kinds of dragons in AUs, smaller, bigger, more or fewer limbs, different eyes, different fire mechanism - it doesn't have to be a Pern dragon, it just needs to be A Dragon)

Medium specific prompts:
Bredlik: compare and contrast the two poems - one poem pov young Ramoth, one poem pov older Ramoth? One poem pov Ramoth one poem pov Mnementh/one of Ramoth's hatchlings/other? Or maybe a two poem set of action and consequences, one where Ramoth engages in lik the bred-esque behavior and one in which a chastised Ramoth...does some other bredlik behavior. Is the behavior chewing Firestone even though she shouldn't? Eating too much wherry? Licking Lessa in the middle of the night?

Fandom specific DNW: Ramoth as a non-dragon, Lessa as a non-humanoid. Ramoth can be changed into different types of dragons as needed for fic purposes but must remain a dragon of some kind.

One Piece

Relationships: Luffy & Zoro & Sanji, Luffy & Zoro & Nami & Sanji & Usopp & Chopper & Robin

Medium Opt-ins:
Art - Comics, Fanart, Tarot Card, Point - Pixel Art
Video - Any Nominated Video Medium
Instructions - Cocktail Recipes
Unique Rules - A Softer World style panels,  Card Game Reskin

What I want most for this fandom is a canon-typical adventure, but with all the elements that are so scant within the canon itself - introspection, lingering on the significance of the relationships between characters, breathing space to feel what events have meant to them and how they've been affected by them.

I'd love to see some interesting sub-groupings of the characters, where their personalities get some room to play off each other, unexpected correspondences, important conversations. Like, stick Usopp and Robin in a high stress situation together? Make Zoro and Nami and Chopper have to work together on something...

So something like: invent an island, stick them on it, give one or more them some personal emotional hook for the plot? Maybe two of them get kidnapped and have to comfort each other as the others frantically search for them? Maybe some hurt/comfort type dynamics but with some lingering on the comfort side of things?

Actually as I'm writing this -- one thing I'd like is Luffy getting to be the damsel in distress. He meets the natural counter for his rubber powers and gets hauled off! Now everyone works to rescue him (and in the meantime he befriends the villain's henchman, or something). Or a general switchup like the Monster Trio stuck in a nightmare simulator having to deal with EMOTIONS while all the less combat-focused characters work together to break into the evil mad scientist's fortress or something... I really enjoy the scenes in canon where the crew teams up to fight (not just breaking into parallel solo fights).

Fandom specific DNW: no misogyny, including: none of the canon typical perverted "humor", and no Sanji being mean about women who are older, ugly, etc

Not a DNW, but if you want please feel very free to completely ignore, retcon, overwrite, or otherwise refuse to acknowledge any of the Sanji backstory reveals established post timeskip. (And in general I'm only loosely attached to any canon from Ace's death onwards, I am very happy to receive things set earlier in the story, or canon divergence that just... Ignores it.)

Last Scenario

Relationships: Bergheim & Moritz & Randolph, Bergheim & Randolph
Medium Opt-ins:
Art - Comics, Fanart, Tarot Card, Tool Schematic, Ship Schematic (ship as in a boat)
Instructions - TTRPG rules
Unique Rules - A Softer World style panels, Card Game Reskin
Video - Any Nominated Video Medium
Writing - Any In-Universe Documents, In-Universe Scientific Documents, TRPG Supplement

Science frenemies! That's pretty much what I want from these relationship tags. I really loved all the scenes of these three being geeks and nerds and prickly academics or mad scientists in various forms in canon, and I'd love more of that, a nd more of them playing off each other.
Moritz pulling off madcap engineering feats, Bergheim and Randolph's academic rivalry, post-series of the three of them driving each other mad while advancing the cause of Science. Something with the intersection of magic and science maybe? More research directions fueled by the discoveries within the game? A research paper one of them wrote with the other two scribbling commentary all over the margins? OR give them a chance to save the world (even better if it's from a disaster they were totally a little bit responsible for unleashing). I'd also love big, melodramatic friends to enemies to co-authors type relationship redemption arcs. All the academic relationship melodrama!

Cameos from all the other cast members greatly appreciated.

Art: I basically want the exact same concepts as in fic-- Dramatic explosions! Expressions of terror while catapulting atop things that Should Not Do That! One of them gets a statue in his honor and the others take turns vandalizing it...

Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell

Relationships: Solo: Juliet, Paul's Dad/Naphula, Paul & Astaroth, WB: Any

Medium Opt-ins:  I... I probably did not manage to opt-in for everything I meant to opt-in to for this canon. Seriously, if it's not on the list but you want to make it, feel free to ask through a mod. (And sorry for overlapping opt-ins, I wasn't certain what was covered under "Any" and what wasn't)

Any -  Creator's Choice: 3+ Diff In-Universe Mediums/Work That Fit The Canon Setting, Any In-Universe Documents, Creator's Choice of 3+ Different In-Universe Mediums Per Wor
Video - Any Nominated Video Medium
Art - Any Nominated Art Medium
Illustrated Text (Art & Writing) - Any Nominated Illustrated Text Medium
Instructions - TTRPG rules
Unique Rules - A Softer World style panels
Writing - Reddit: In-Universe r/AmITheAsshole Post, Reddit: Highly Upvoted/Gilded Reddit Comment And The Comment's Context, Reddit: In-Universe r/Legaladvice Post (Post + Replies), Reddit: In-Universe Reddit Post On Any Subreddit (Post + Replies), In-Universe TTRPG Campaign, TTRPG Supplement

Fic: This is an amazing canon for ALLLLLL the in-universe media, what with Juliet canonically getting exorcism advice from reddit, etc. I'll happily take some outsider POV, I'd love to see what Juliet's friends think of all this. I enjoy Juliet's constant moments of cringe mixed with awesome, she's a fantastic character and I'd love more adventure for her.

I'm also fascinated by whatever weirdness went down between Paul's Dad/Naphula and although I assume we'll be learning more this season it would be fun to read what you imagine for it. (I nominated this with a slash because they're canonically a couple, but you do not need to include shippiness, gen-type positive interactions between them are fine).

I loved every minute in canon of Astaroth being drawn totally bewildered into friendship with Paul and will take plenty of servings more of it, please and thank you. Does Paul make them friendship bracelets and Astaroth hates it and then it gets destroyed by a stray energy beam and he is both sad and absolutely furious at himself for being sad? Or any Paul dragging Astaroth off to very mundane adventures -- shopping at farmer's market, volunteering at a bake sale...

Art: Ridiculous art in the spirit of the canon, any medium great but parodies of other art styles would I think be especially fun, like Very Serious Abstract Art about Astaroth's feelings or something.

The King's Avatar

Relationships: Xu Boyuan & Ye Xiu

Medium Opt-ins: Art - Comics, Fanart
Video - Any Nominated Video Medium

Okay. I'm going to be honest.. there are so many things to love about this canon, the dynamics of Team Happy, the satisfying underdogs to victors plot, Ye Xiu and Su Mucheng's incredible friendship, everything about Tang Rou, etc etc.

But my favorite, my absolute favorite part of canon was the Xu Boyuan side/subplot.

(My second favorite part was Ye Xiu as Unrivaled Super Hottie, and my third favorite was An Wenyi getting teams destroyed as he worked to improve his healing skills. There is. There is probably a common thread here)

I love his relationship with Ye Xiu, I love how he gets drawn into Ye Xiu's rhythm, totally unwillingly, and even worse finds himself liking it. The novel sort of dropped the subplot but I would have happily consumed it going on through the rest of canon, just Xu Boyuan getting wound deeper and deeper into Ye Xiu's schemes. I would also consume about a billion AUs of the exact same premise. Xu Boyuan as an undercover cop and Ye Xiu as the con artist who also is totally aware Xu Boyuan is an undercover cop and has somehow successfuly manipulated a despairing Xu Boyuan into disabling the safe's locks. That kind of thing.

Also, Xu Boyuan interacting with Unrivaled Super Hottie would be wonderful <3

Finally, my secret desire for this fandom (okay, it's not secret, I request it every time) -- a game world fusion, where the game is somehow a kind of reality. It's not just them playing on their computers, they're actually grinding quests. I especially want some version of this where Ye Xiu is quite literally disguising his physical body/face every time he uses a sockpuppet in canon. Combine that with my infinite appetite for Ye Xiu and Xu Boyuan double-cross identity shenanigans amd Xu Boyuan Suffering (TM) and I will be thrilled.

Finding the Canons

Dragonriders of Pern: This is a classic fantasy-flavored scifi series. For my prompts, you only need familiarity with the first book, Dragonflight, with a Kindle edition available for 4$ on Amazon

One Piece: This shounen manga has been running for over 20 years now. Both the manga and the anime are over 1000 chapters/episodes long. However, if you do decide you want to try dipping your toes into the canon now in order to write a gift for me, first of all I salute you, and secondly, the island-to-island format of the story makes it very easy to simply stick a new adventure in at whatever point is convenient for you (the anime does this for filler episodes plenty of times). If you are writing for Luffy & Zoro & Nami, you should watch/read at least to the end of the East Blue arc (around 100 chapters/60 episodes). If you are writing for Luffy & Zoro & Nami & Sanji & Usopp & Chopper & Robin, you can either read/watch to the end of the Arabasta Arc (chapter 218, episode 130) and keep Robin mysterious, or watch to the end of Enies Lobby (chapter 439, episode 336). There is additional backstory revealed for one character much much later, but as I frankly prefer to ignore it you don't need to know it to write him for me.

Last Scenario: This is a free indie jrpg style computer game that is also available for Android). I wrote a promo for it for Yuletide 2021 including links to where to download it, watch a playthrough, or read a screencapped recap. However, it is a very long game and some of the characters I'm requesting this time only show up close to the end.

Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell: At the time of me writing this letter, this is an ongoing webtoon. 2.5 out of 3 total seasons have been completed. The third season has just got back from mid-season break, and will be updating weekly until the story has ended... However, please feel completely free to write me fic that might be jossed, I anyway am happy to receive canon-divergence for this canon.

The King's Avatar: This is a very long webnovel, which also has donghua and manhua adaptations that I think are pretty close to the source material, and a live action adaptation which changes some things. I have only read the novel - if you can't find it online you can contact me via the mods and I'll send you my epub.
